Carmen turned over on the bed and let out a huge breath. She had drifted to sleep, her stomach full of a damn fine burger and fries. But it had given her a doozy of a dream. Typically, she found herself flying or spending time in an overly bright forest—like some weird acid trip. But tonight’s dream had been about her wedding to Graham. She’d been so young and innocent. She’d had sex before, but everything was more intense with Graham. He’d been the first to give her an orgasm that she didn’t have alone. She’d been blinded by love, and in this dream, she saw her wedding through the eyes of who she was now.

She first noticed that Graham’s eyes were red from a hangover. He had a scratch on his neck that may have come from a woman’s nail. His groomsmen were all laughing and elbowing each other like children. Mutterings of the “best send off to a life of monogamy” had been muttered by one of the frat boy groomsmen.

On that day, she’d heard none of it, so bewitched by the idea of marrying this beautiful man that she was blinded by joy. But her subconscious had recorded it all and, unfortunately, chose this evening to let her see the mistake she made all those years ago.

Well, not a mistake. Without Graham, there’d be no Karl or Emma; her children were her heart. But that didn’t mean that she didn’t breathe a sigh of relief when she woke up and wasn’t in bed with Graham.

“You, okay?” Tray said in the darkness.

“Just a dream.”

He yawned. “A good one?”

“No. I was dreaming about my wedding. It wasn’t as charming as I thought it was then.”

Tray turned on the light, and he was shirtless.

Her mouth went dry. Lord, save her.

His warm brown eyes were trained on her with caring and curiosity. After years of disdain on her husband’s face, his expression was surprising and thrilling. It made her body throb like the freaking cougar she was.

“He’s an asshole. He didn’t deserve you then and certainly doesn’t deserve to trespass in your dreams now.”

“You’re being kind.”

He rubbed his head. “Without coffee, kindness is not my thing.”

Carmen laughed. “Same.”

“Can you sleep some more? It’s only like”—he tipped his wrist to glance at his watch—“four-thirty.”

“Absolutely. Go back to sleep. Sorry I bothered you.”

A rhythmic pounding from next door, followed by a loud throaty moan, had them both turning to face the wall.

“Of course, we would have the horny couple next door,” Tray groused and shook his head.

“Like that. Just LIKE THAT!” the woman wailed.

“Wow. He’s doing something right.” She snickered. Although, honestly, it was making her hot.

The grunts in synch with the pounding of the bed frame were reaching a crescendo.

“Fuuuuuucccckkkk,” The grunting man groaned as the bedframe settled down.

Tray stared at the wall and scowled. “I mean, I’m the rock star. No one should be keeping me up with their sexing. It’s like I’m in an alternative universe. I don’t like it.”

Carmen smiled.
